River/Estuary/Backwater

  • Identified and assessed the various vulnerability issues associated with the wetland fishers distributed across three stations (Vaikkom (VAI), Muhamma (MUH) and Thycattussery (THY)) of Vembanad lake
  • THY experienced more vulnerabilities on account of poor status of livelihood (57), social (65.5), food security (59.75) and resource user based (60.2) compared to MUH and VAI
  • Fishers across the villages were least prone to livelihood vulnerabilities (53.67) and more prone to resource vulnerability (56.4)
  • With respect to climate change, the fishers of MUH experienced greater ecological (56.75) and resource (59.4) based vulnerabilities
  • Overall wetland vulnerability indices derived from villages across the wetland indicated that THY (58.9) was highly vulnerable compared to MUH (55.76) and VAI (50.61)
